Maintenance of terminal parts of nylon whips.. Nylon whips are most durable, especially in harsh climates, but not indestructible. Exercise some care, and lay off rough surfaces. Cleaning with mild detergent, hang dry, re waxing is recommended, if soiled. Contact whip maker, if not sure. Remember this mostly applies to whips made by 21st.century whips....   Never crack any whip with out a proper cracker!!!!!

                 Replacing cracker
This how most crackers are attached....
Using a sharp awl, penetrate under the cracker with out penetrating the transition, or your hand. Then pull cracker off hard....
Melt frayed parts on transition. Then loop new cracker  as shown.... Don't let the transition, to continue, with a frayed end.......
Tie a single knot. But don't pull the transition through....
Pull tightly. Success!!!!
                     Replacing broken transition..
This is NOT a cracker, but a ruined transition. It needs to be replaced. Remember: This can be prevented, by keeping whip off rough surfaces, keep transition from fraying, and using a cracker....
Cut the knot off at the fall it self. Or where the twisted fall ends on the later models...
Insert new transition, and tie a 2 loop snelling knot. Then retie the 2 ends of the fall in single knots....        Spare transitions are included with 21st.Century  whips ,  along with spare crackers, except pocketwhips....
Using pliers, carefully pull these knots together, and tight. Then trim loose ends. Transition should be  around 10 inches, when done........
Carefully! melt all loose ends, including  transition tip. Dip whole fall area  in molten paraffin wax, not too  hot,  and install new cracker. Success!!

When heating wax, Don't use open flame. Heat at temperatures around 150 -170 degrees F.. If there is smoke, it's too hot, and that can cause fire. And you don't want to dip it,that hot.. Re dipping whips are only done at the last 2 feet. That is, if that part gets  a fuzzy appearance. That happens when the whip gets worn due to use on rough surfaces.. Re waxing is hardly needed for a very long, providing that the whip is not abused. If you are not sure, 21st.century whips will repair, clean and re dip/rub whips for a fee + shipping. Fees are determined by size of the whips, to be dipped..
